Picked it up yesterday, shoots BB Caps and 9mm rimfire shot cartridges.
Garden guns have very limited range and are used to control small, defenseless animals in areas where ricochets or projectiles otherwise zooming around with wild abandon might cause harm to property or livestock.

A BB Cap is essentially a .22 round ball sitting on a .22 priming charge. It was/is used for indoor shooting which was/is a common pastime.

A quite attractive little thing. Belgian. Made in the early part of the 20th century. Evidentially there was a cottage indusry making arms in various rural areas. Note the similarity of the ironwork between two of the guns I own...

Similar manufacturing occurred during the middle ages. A town might have families that specialized in ironwork or leather crafts and they would work together to produce a sword like this

It is from the 15th century and is German. A nice example.
Where was I? Oh yeah ...
I'll fire the sucker at some point. I'll probably load some severely reduced rounds. We shall see.

Nice job.
There is a substances called chelating agents that effectively puts the rust into solution. It is quick and safe and effective
I'd like to take something like that on one day. I see relic firearms at the shows occasionally, might pick one up. Thanks for posting.

So I saw a box of 9mm rimfire shot cartridges at a show today and Thought that the time had come to try this sucker.

The 9mm is the leftmost cartridge. It contains maybe 50 #6 shot each of which is about 0.1" in diameter.
First I took the pellets out of a cartridge and put a wad in to check for function. "Pop". Enough of the girlie crap. Shot a round into a cardboard box. Looks like they all went thru at about 5 yards.
Thing makes no noise and probably could kill a mole or rat or something. Might take two shots. There is a word for this ... let me think ...
innocuous, thats it.
In all honesty I am not sure that I could shoot a critter with this thing in good conscience.

What's with the metric?
I thought they were artillery shells until I saw the metric.

Since you don’t actually need a gun, one could engineer a single shot simple device to use instead
A zip gun that fires a 22 rat shot round
