Re: The humanities
Soldiers are citizens of death's grey land,
Drawing no dividend from time's to-morrows.
In the great hour of destiny they stand,
Each with his feuds, and jealousies, and sorrows.
Soldiers are sworn to action; they must win
Some flaming, fatal climax with their lives.
Soldiers are dreamers; when the guns begin
They think of firelit homes, clean beds and wives.
I see them in foul dug-outs, gnawed by rats,
And in the ruined trenches, lashed with rain,
Dreaming of things they did with balls and bats,
And mocked by hopeless longing to regain
Bank-holidays, and picture shows, and spats,
And going to the office in the train.
Drawing no dividend from time's to-morrows.
In the great hour of destiny they stand,
Each with his feuds, and jealousies, and sorrows.
Soldiers are sworn to action; they must win
Some flaming, fatal climax with their lives.

Bank-holidays, and picture shows, and spats,
And going to the office in the train.

Re: The humanities
Thanks.
The poetry of "Mad Jack" Sassoon sure beats the war and empire-loving poetry of Rudyard Kipling who was a "product of his times," aren't-we-all.

Ignoring that ...
In the Uni they made it seem like all the art and humanities shit was all good and uplifting and just swell, you know?
Based on living a long time, I'm pretty sure they edited out a lot of art and creativity of the past.
In any case, the latest humanities I just witnessed.

Re: The humanities
Wtf? What is this some 4chan meme talk?Citizen #1: "Did you hear Coca-Cola released an ad with two men raising a baby together AND stood up against Georgia's voter ID law? I'm glad companies are finally standing up for the right thing."
Citizen #2: "This is the same company that used a paramilitary to murder union workers at their bottling plant in Colombia. It's just Globohomo propaganda."
Checks authority on such things
Globohomo
(noun, can also be used as an adjective) A portmanteau of the words "global" (or "globalist") and "homosexual." Used to sarcastically denote the predominant philosophy espoused by the Western economic elite, formally known as "neoliberalism". It combines ruthless capitalism by transnational corporations with a façade of socially-liberal politics.
The ultimate end state of Globohomo is one in which all sexual, ethnic, racial and national identity is broken down, leaving the demoralized masses to work for $12 an hour in an Amazon warehouse while a small cadre of billionaires rule over them. A poignant vision of Globohomo can be found in Aldous Huxley's 1932 novel, "Brave New World".
While often used by the alt-right, the term is not exclusively conservative in nature, nor is it necessarily anti-homosexual. In fact, considering that Marxism was created in response to working class exploitation, a CEO championing leftist talking points while making 200 times the salary of their employees should be noted as an extreme case of irony.

Re: The humanities
A helpful tip.
If you come across a web page, that has no publish date on it, (becoming more common, and it sucks), use archive.org to see the earliest known date for it. (doesn't mean the date is correct, but you can find out if it was published in 2021 or 2002)

Re: The humanities
The song is about letting go. It’s very rare for a relationship to withstand the Earth’s gravitational pull and where it’s going to take people and how they’re going to grow. I’ve heard it said that you can’t really have a true love unless it was a love unrequited. It’s a harsh one because then your truest one is the one you can’t have forever.

Re: The humanities
“Black” became one of Pearl Jam’s best-known songs and is a central emotional piece on the album Ten. Despite pressure from Epic Records, the band refused to make it into a single, feeling that it was too personal and the feeling of it would be lost by a video or a single release. Vedder stated that:
Fragile songs get crushed by the business. I don’t want to be a part of it. I don’t think the band wants to be part of it.
Vedder personally called radio station managers to make sure Epic had not released the song as a single against his wishes. In spite of this, the song charted at number three on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number 20 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1993.

Just read that post and thread
So much humanity
One thing I learned long ago, and it sounds sort of woo woo, but it also is sort of a deep truth
“The truth is beautiful, while the lie is ugly”
I tried to disprove this old adage many times

Re: The humanities
The fucked up thing about it, is my own memories, are not real sometimes
I know this from experience, when it comes to actual reality
I also know it from science and experiments, done by myself and others
Our human memories are easily changed, by time, by the nature of our minds, and even by others
Oh shit
While typing that an emergency evacuation alert popped up on my phone
Friends, and even enemies, I may have to evacuate due to a raging wildfire headed my way
It’s not just bad, it is looking catastrophic
I’m not joking at all
And that’s it for this post

Re: The humanities
“Money is the answer to everything”
That is in the Bible
Most people won’t believe that when they first hear it
And most people after they do a search and find out it actually is
They still won’t believe it
