Yes it's that time of life.
Options.
1. Varifocal contact lenses. Fucking forget it, said my gorgeous, hijab-wearing, muslim optician, in slightly more polite terms.
2. Bifocals. You don't look old enough, said she.
3. Carry on as you are, trying to find your reading glasses, seeing glasses, cycling glasses, sunglasses etc. while trying not to sit on them and then fix them with epoxy resin.
4.Varifocals. "These," said she, "take some getting used to but I do think they're the best option for you unless you fancy laser surgery." (My brother spent £3000 on laser surgery, sees halos when the light is dim and still has to wear glasses on occasion.)
So, I opted for the varifocals. Chose the lightest frames I could find with a decent field of vision, (apparently this is important with varifocals), and was shown the options from which I could choose.

Fuck it, thinks I, I have a limited health policy that'll pay £120, so I might as well get the best.

£248 for a piss-poor, weakling pair of frames and a pair of lenses I'll struggle to see through. At least I've saved £59.00 for the privilege and got a free NHS eye test.
Varifocals.

Re: Varifocals.
What's the difference between this new voodoo of 'varifocals' and what we yanks refer to as no line bifocals?
Because AC needs to know!
