The World of Suzy Wong
Re-reading a dog-eared copy of this that I inherited from my father. Utterly charming novel set in pre-Chinese Hong Kong.
It was later made into a movie, which I haven't seen, but with predictably poor reviews.

Re: The World of Suzy Wong
It's hardly "literature", but it does provide a snapshot of a bygone age and a touching love story, (not generally my thing but I was short of something to read.) I'd imagine it was quite risqué for its day, probably why my father bought it.

The Shat!!! Talk about predictably horrible. The novel was adapted into a stage play in 1958 by Paul Osborn, directed by Joshua Logan, produced by David Merrick, and starred William Shatner and France Nuyen.[2][3] Tsai Chin played the title role in the West End 1959 production.

When will the Shat die?

He probably didn't want to. Who'd want to be smothered in green greasepaint?
