One of the ubiquitous features of mid 1980s tv in the UK was that "middle of the road" tv programs would often, in a tragic attempt to appear "urban", parachute those rap singers into programs or a couple of black kids with instructions to "do some of that there hip hop dancing" in order to appear "edgy" and appeal to a wider audience.
