India
Marge and I returned today from an enjoyable visit to India's two southernmost states, Tamil Nadu (Tamil Home) and Kerela.

We had visited central India a few years ago, and like central India, this area is a mess, but a very interesting and friendly mess.
What we learned or were told is that:
The ancient Hindu temples vary from large to huge and are amazingly ornate.
About one third of Indians are considered to be poor, meaning that they earn less than the rupee equivalent of
$2.00 per day. (This is tempered somewhat by the fact that a lot of these people are subsistence farmers who are almost self-sufficient.)
India's major political parties include a Hindu Party, a Muslim Party, a Marxist Party, and a Maoist Party, among many other parties.
Kerela is said to be the world's first and only state to democratically elect a communist government.
Kerela has in fairly recent times had a Green Revolution, favoring vegetable farmers with various incentives, a Pink Revolution for beef ranchers, a Yellow Revolution for vegetable oil farmers, a White Revolution for milk producers, and a Blue Revolution for fishermen, among other revolutions. We saw large, subsidized housing projects along the shore built for fishermen and women.
One can see why self-made billionaire investor Jim Rogers said a few years ago that he had to give up trying to invest in India due to its uncertainties which seem to be enough to make Adam Smith spin in his grave.
Another problem hindering economic growth are India's language barriers. Hindi, Tamil, and many other languages which vary greatly are the first and only languages of many Indians. with English being the second language of many others. India probably cannot rapidly advance economically until the majority of Indians speak English and communism dies out, as it has in Russia, China, Albania, and elsewhere, and this will probably take at least a generation before all Indians begin to prosper.
As with most other Gate 1 trips, our tour manger and the local guides were all terrific.

Pretty certain that the tattoo on her right thigh reads "Charley's 'ad me."

"Dedicated to an Indian goddess as a child, Huvakka Bhimappa's years of sexual servitude began when her uncle
took her virginity, raping her in exchange for a saree and some jewelry."
"Bhimappa was not yet 10 years old when she became a "devadasi" -- girls coerced by their parents into
an elaborate wedding ritual with a Hindu deity, many of whom are then forced into illegal prostitution."

Yes.
What right does some White Oppressive Toxic Masculinity have to judge victims of centuries of British people?
Next, you will complain about the liberation of female genital celebration!
